As a Technical Fellow and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, Dr. Weizhu Chen leads the company’s Generative AI (GenAI) efforts, overseeing foundational model innovations and driving next-generation post-training and model customization across products. His research introduced groundbreaking contributions to the AI community, such as LoRA, DeBERTa, Phi, and Rho-1.

Weizhu has delivered significant business value across multiple Microsoft product groups, including Azure, GitHub, Office, Biz Apps, DevDiv, and Security. For example, his team owned model quality and successfully launched GitHub Copilot GA in 2022, introducing a tremendously successful product and establishing Microsoft’s first Copilot. His work on LoRA revolutionized LLM adoption, making it more efficient, cost-effective, and accessible. LoRA powers numerous Microsoft products and has influenced the entire industry.  His work in integrating the Reinforcement Learning into Microsoft’s products has significantly improved model training efficiency and model quality across multiple products, such as Github Copilot, M365 Copilot, and SWE-Agent.
