The Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA (CIE-USA), founded in 1917, has a long and rich history. Distinguished figures in Chinese engineering, such as railway engineering pioneer Zhan Tianyou and “Father of Chinese Bridges” Mao Yisheng, both served as early presidents of the institute. Since its establishment, CIE has carried an important mission – to serve the Chinese American technology professional community in North America, promote technological advancement, foster career development, and encourage social engagement.
CIE-USA currently has seven major chapters across the United States. For over a century, it has continuously upheld and practiced the Chinese American community’s vision and ideals for science, technology, and education. The institute is dedicated to nurturing talent in the fields of engineering and technology and promoting communication and integration across diverse cultural backgrounds.

On September 28, 2024, the Chinese Institute of Engineers-Seattle Chapter (CIE/USA-SEA) hosted its prestigious Asian American Engineers of the Year (AAEOY) Award Ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington in Southport, Seattle.
- Awardees: 19 Asian American engineers and scientists who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in science and technology received various awards.
- Congratulatory Messages: Several U.S. political leaders sent congratulatory letters, including:
- Washington State Governor Jay Inslee
- U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell
- Chinese American U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland
- These leaders highly praised the significant contributions of Asian American engineers and scientists to technological progress.
- Special Guest: Bob Ferguson, then Washington State Attorney General and current Governor of Washington, attended the ceremony in person to congratulate the awardees.
- Recognition: Ferguson acknowledged the tremendous contributions of Asian American scholars and engineers to the development of Washington State. He emphasized that their dedication to truth and spirit of innovation continue to inspire the younger generation and bring hope for future development.
