Michael Chang

I was born in Taiwan and got my BS degree in Transportation Engineering and Management from National Chiao-Tung University. After serving in ROC Army for two years, I came to U.S. for advanced study. I got a MS degree in Computer Science from Brigham Young University in Utah. My first job was developing a UNIX based laboratory information system for 3M company in Salt Lake City. After 5 years, I decided to work on PC software, so I moved to WordPerfect corporation. WordPerfect was acquired by Novell one year after I joined. Although I survived through three layoffs during the acquisition, but I thought it was enough and time to move on to a different place. Luckily, I got job offer from Microsoft, so I moved to Seattle area at the end of 1995. Microsoft has been my employer since then. My career at Microsoft has been changed from engineering to management. I am pleased with the career opportunities that I have with Microsoft.
My wife and I were married for over 21 years. We have two boys. One is a senior at University of Washington studying in Computer Science. My younger son is currently a freshman at University of Washington. As the President of CIE-USA Seattle chapter in 2007, I had opportunities to work with outstanding people in many events and engage with national council. I am proud of being a member of this organization.
 

George Chang

George Chang is a project manager at Foxconn. Foxconn is also known as HonHai Precision Industry Co in Taiwan. It is world largest electronic component/system manufacturer. His responsibility is to conduct and manage the product development from design to manufacturing and the end of product life.

George finished his bachelor degree in mechanical engineering at Nation Tsing Hua University in Hsin Chu, Taiwan and then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with MS degree in biomedical engineering. He moved to Seattle area in early 2007 to open a new business account with Microsoft for Foxconn.
 

Eric Chen

Eric was born in Taiwan. He earned his B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from National Tsing-Hua University and M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1984.

He Worked for Northwestern University as an Application Software and System Engineer for 6 years. Currently, he is the manager of FKC Land LLC. He manages and invests in Real Estate and financial equities.
 

Jiin Chen, Ph. D.

Jiin was born in China, and obtained his bachelor degree in Taiwan.  In the late 60s, he came to the United States to continue his graduate studies at Oregon State University and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. 

Jiin first joined the Boeing Company in 1974 as a Quality Engineer.  During his early career, he developed various quality control and monitoring computing systems to promote various quality processes.  He later worked as an Avionics Software lead engineer and developed various avionics control systems for the 737, 747, 767 and 777 airplanes.  Currently, he has returned to the quality organization and is the project leader to the Surveillance Manager and Process Monitoring Quality Computing Systems.

Jiin’s family consists of his wife Chris and son Andre.  He enjoys photography and various sports including football, basketball and soccer.
 

Peter Huang, Ph. D.

A visionary and achievement-driven Executive with proven success in aligning people, processes, and technology with strategic business goals. Experienced in business development and offshore resource management.  Achievements include:

·         Strategic planning – Developed strategic roadmap to link business and technology in various areas and accelerated cost saving through application and systems consolidation.

·         Technology excellence – Implemented award winning applications, Business Intelligence services and systems that allowed business to grow faster and created more opportunities.

·         Accountability – Consistently delivered projects on time/within budget through project planning, execution, and control. Turned around failed projects and low-performing teams.

·         Cost Savings – Saved over $10M through application, process, organization and system integration and performance improvement.

 

Hsiung-Fei Lee

Mr. Lee was trained as an electrical engineer and worked for The Boeing Company in Seattle for over thirty- three years. He started as a design engineer working on avionics systems. He moved into management and oversaw the design and implementation of system on various Boeing commercial aircrafts. He extended his experience into the manufacturing of the jetliner for many years and retired from Boeing as a sales director.

After leaving Boeing, he went to the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan. First as the vice president of operation and later the president of a start up avionics manufacturer in Taiwan, he managed the day-to-day operations of the company for two years. The company made onboard entertainment display units for US companies. The AeroVision Avionics Inc. started from ground zero and achieved $10M USD revenues in its second year under his leadership.

He was the president of CIE/USA-Seattle in 1976. Since he entered into full time retirement, he has continued his involvement in many civic functions in the community and enjoys the opportunity to serve this group of excellent engineering professionals in the Seattle area
 

Shih-Jong (James) Lee,  Ph. D.

James Lee is the founder and President of SVision LLC, a company provides innovative cost-effective solutions for image-based decision applications.  SVision has been and continues to be profitable since it’s inception in 1999.  Dr. Lee was the technical founder and Chief Technical Officer of NeoPath, Inc., a biomedical instrument company created the world’s only FDA approved fully automated cervical cancer screener. Dr. Lee was with NeoPath before its start-up in 1989, through IPO, secondary offering, until its acquisition by AutoCyte Inc in 1999.  Altogether NeoPath raised over US$150 million from the venture and equity markets.  He was with Boeing High Technology Center from 1986 to 1989. 

Dr. Lee has over 80 technical publications.  He is an inventor of 52 issued, 3 allowed, and over 20 pending US patents and numerous international patents.  He is a winner of 1990 Boeing Invention Award.  He has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and three-year NIH post-doctoral training in bioengineering.  He is a graduate from the AEA/Stanford Executive Institute Program for management of technology companies in1997.

He is the chairman and 2004 President of CIE/USA – Seattle and the 2005-2006 chairman of the CIE/USA National Council.  He is also a director of the National Taiwan University Alumni Association of Northwest America.
 

Shiang-Yu Lee, Ph. D.

Dr. Shiang-yu Lee recently retired from the Boeing Company as an Engineer Scientist of Information Systems Architecture. He was involved in the development of architecture technology for managing information assets and computing system consolidation efforts. Prior to that assignment, he also worked at Boeing in areas of Information Standards Development, Structural Engineering, Product Development, Factory Management Systems and International Relations.

Shiang-yu Lee graduated in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University and has his Master and Ph. D. Degrees both accredited from University of Delaware in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Before joining Boeing, Dr. Lee had engaged in teaching and research at University of Iowa, Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology in Taiwan and Wichita State University. Dr. Lee has published many research contributions in applied mechanics and mathematics subject areas, and holds a patent from the US and other countries. Dr. Lee is a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) at which he presented a series of technical paper, the latest in June 2006.

Dr. Lee has involved with many local communities serving as a Board Member of the Chinese Institute of Engineers Seattle Chapter, (CIE-SEA), the Northwest Chinese Hi-Tech Professionals (NWCHP) and the Chinese American Organization, Greater Seattle Chapter (OCA-GS).
 

Ta-Win Lin, Ph. D.

Ta-Win Lin specializes in urban and regional economics, industrial analysis, economic forecasting, and transportation economics.  In addition to assessing the prevailing economic and business conditions for private and public audiences, Ta-Win has spoken and written on a variety of topics concerning the state and the regional economies.  He also has presented many expert overviews addressing policy issues in environment, economic development, land use changes, and urban transportation.

Ta-Win is currently working as a Senior Economist at Washington State Office of Financial Management.  In this position, he produces an annual state economic and labor force forecast report, develops revenue forecasts, and participates in policy discussions and assessment.  In addition, he develops information and analyses for the Governor’s Office, other state and local public agencies, and clients in the private sectors.
 

Roberto Lu, Ph. D.

Roberto received his bachelor’s degree in Materials Science from Feng Chia University in Taiwan, first master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, second master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and third master’s and the PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering from University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.

Roberto is an Associate Technical Fellow in the Boeing Commercial Airplane Material and Process Technology organization in Seattle.  He models business and production processes for Boeing leaders to optimize the impacts of their decisions.   He speaks at professional events worldwide, focusing upon discrete event simulation, analytical process optimization, global logistics, lean manufacturing, robotic applications, and mass customization.  He has more than 40 combined journal, conference, and patent publications. His professional experiences prior to Boeing includes machine vision integrated robotic automation, tooling development, geometric dimensional tolerance establishment and inspection, non-destructive testing, metallurgical spectrographic analysis, and manufacturing statistical quality control at the Pilkington North America Libbey-Owens-Ford company and the Intermet-New River Castings company.  Roberto is a licensed Professional Engineer, a member of SAE, ASME, and a senior member of IIE. 

Roberto is an immigrant generation Chinese from Taiwan.  During his leisure time, he enjoys fishing, cooking, skiing, and volunteering in community events
 

Ian Tien

Ian Tien served as a Vice President of CIE-USA/Seattle in 2007 and is currently serving a 2007-2009 term on the board of directors. He is a Senior Product Manager in the Office Business Application product group at Microsoft Corporation. His responsibilities include product management and marketing with a focus on Microsoft-SAP strategy and the adoption of Microsoft Office technologies as a front-end to enterprise business processes.

Previously he led the functional design team on Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 responsible for SAP Netweaver BI connectivity, Microsoft Office 2007 integration (SharePoint, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel) and Scorecarding and Monitoring (codenamed "Concerto"). Before PerformancePoint, Ian was responsible for the design of Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 (codenamed "Maestro") as well as the product's Technology Adoption Programs. Prior, he ran early adoption programs for the Microsoft Office Business Intelligence Accelerators product line and developed core content for their launch campaigns.

Before coming to Microsoft Ian lived prior lives in product management and development at Trilogy Software in Austin, Texas (financial services business unit), ETrade in Toronto, Canada (institutional trading division), and at a start-up in Washington D.C. (supply chain automation) that was bought by Manugistics. He's an alumnus of Cornell University and the University of Waterloo with degrees in computer engineering, computer science, and cognitive science.
 

Kai Wang, Ph. D.

Dr. Wang has extensive life science research and management experience in both academia and industrial settings.  He is a cofounder of PhenoGenomics Corporation, a drug discovery and development company.  Prior to the founding of PhenoGenomics, he was a Senior Scientist at Celltech Inc., where he established and led the expression-based target discovery group to identify and characterize genes related to cancer, autoimmune, and neurological diseases.  He has discovered several novel therapeutic targets, obtained and filed several patents, and published over 40 original research papers.  He currently also serves as Chief Technology Officer for Taiwan Genome Sciences.  He received his PhD in Biochemistry from Oregon State University, and his MS in Molecular Biology from the National Tsing-Hua University, Taiwan.
 

David Wei

David Wei, an experienced computer technologist programmer, is the IT Manager of Triple B Corporation.  He specialized in software development for business applications and database administration.  David graduated from National Taiwan University with major of Forest Industry. He earned MS degree in Wood Science form University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana in 1983 and master degree of Computer Science and Engineering from Santa Clara University in 1986.

David has been a director of CIE/USA – Seattle for the last two years and a focal of AAEOY.  He made significant contribution to its successful programs and Annual Conventions
 

Chi-Shu (Philip) Yu

I was born in Taiwan and got my B.A degree in Political Science from Tunghai University.  I decided to go to USA and studied Computer Science while I served in ROC army for two years.  I took some computer training classes in Taiwan, and my application was accepted by New Jersey Institute of Technology.  I got the MS degree in Computer Science from NJIT.  My first job was to do computerization for an Importer and Wholesaler while I was still a student.  This job pulled me into a new job that established a branch office in Los Angeles and served as business manager for the West Coast Territory. After 6 years in business, I wanted to go back to the Computer field. So, I came to Seattle at Oct, 1995 and got the job in King County Mental Health Division.  This job started with LAN administration, and went into WAN, Window Server and HP-UX admin.  In 2001, I made a move and got the offer from the Enterprise Computing in Dept of  IT, City of Seattle.  My job is mainly dealing with Unix  (IBM & SUN) and Storage (SAN, SHARK, DS400, McData Fabric) Administration.  I am pleased with my current job and no plan to make any move.

My wife and I were married for 20 years. We have two kids. The boy is a senior at Bellevue High School.  The girl is a 10th grader at Issaquah High School.  My wife is an interior designer, Chinese school principal and good mother. 

It will be my pleasure to work with all of you in CIE/USA-SEA.
